2020 Mentoring Summit & Luncheon Update

Thank you for all the ways you support the work of MENTOR Nebraska. Those familiar with us know our vision is to serve the most vulnerable youth in our state – whether they are refugees, have experience within the juvenile justice system, or are youth living in poverty – by helping them form supportive, healthy mentoring relationships. As the COVID-19 situation evolves here in Nebraska, we are asking questions about how we can ensure our vital work continues during times of social distancing while still respecting the safety of individuals and the public at large.

During these stressful times, when children’s lives are upended by school and event closures, maintaining supportive, intentional mentoring relationships becomes more important than ever. We have been in touch with all our mentoring agencies to discuss ways mentors can stay connected to the youth who are home from school. We are doing our part to ensure that our youth can still rely on their mentors for stability, consistency, and guidance during this time of uncertainty.

As is our social responsibility, taking our cue from the CDC and local health officials, the MENTOR Nebraska Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming 10th Annual Mentoring Summit & Luncheon scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

Although the event is cancelled, we are still planning to announce and recognize our 2020 Mentor of the Year and Business of the Year award winners virtually on April 1. Watch for this exciting news and information! We want to extend our gratitude to our many event sponsors, and to our chair couple, Connie & Richard Spellman, for all the work they put into planning this event.

This year, MENTOR Nebraska was expecting to raise $60,000 through this event. Our organization depends on these funds to power programs for 2020 and beyond that allow us to continue our urgent work. If you would like to help MENTOR Nebraska recoup some of our costs for this event, donations can be made here.

Please contact MENTOR Nebraska’s Executive Director, Deborah Neary, at 402-715-4164 or deborah@mentornebraska.org if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support!

Wishing you continued good health,

MENTOR Nebraska Board and Staff
