For more than 20 years, MENTOR Nebraska has led the mentoring movement to ensure youth and mentors have access to high-quality mentoring experiences. As a backbone organization, we support direct service mentoring programs, breaking down silos and barriers across the sector. We are changemakers committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.

OPEN SERVICE POSITIONS

With the support of an AmeriCorps grant from ServeNebraska, MENTOR Nebraska is looking for individuals to help us provide capacity building support, no-cost consultation, and training to mentoring programs across Nebraska. We are accepting applications for these three positions:

WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Expansion, Orientation and Outreach Coordinator will work to expand the number of nonprofit mentoring programs receiving capacity building support from MENTOR Nebraska. As an AmeriCorps member, you will provide targeted outreach to bypass institutional barriers that historically have prevented many programs from reaching the next step of success and impact. In promoting high-quality mentorship across the state, you'll help deploy messages that build knowledge and awareness of the benefits of mentoring. You'll develop a formal pipeline and communications process to guide any interested programs toward becoming Tier 1 mentoring programs. As you recruit program partners and identify needs/interests, you'll support program onboarding and orientation.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Act as a connector: helping mentoring programs statewide access MENTOR resources and partnerships, by serving as a point of contact.
  • Develop communications plan to bring awareness of cost-free capacity building services to new mentoring programs across the state.
  • Assist marketing development and distribution of information and resources to potential partners and stakeholders.
  • Conduct targeted, personal follow-up on communications to advocate for high-quality mentoring programs and connect program interests to MENTOR Nebraska support.
  • Identify and establish relationships with influencers within target populations and key communities to help programs expand geographically into new, target communities.
  • Recruit new partners across the state to join MENTOR Nebraska and commit to the National Quality Mentoring System.
  • Promote technical assistance and toolkit resources among mentoring programs across the state through targeted outreach using multiple communication methods.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESSES THE FOLLOWING SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Solutions and detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and project management skills. Knowledge or experience with mentoring sector, social services, nonprofit operations preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, human relations, and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Knowledge and experience in public relations, marketing, communications, or graphic and web design preferred.
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and effectively, both independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage changes and adapt to changing conditions and circumstances.
  • Ability to interact among stakeholders with cultural competence in all manner of engagement.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and manage relationships with program staff in other communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to model professional behavior throughout their service by respecting others and maintaining open and honest communication.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age to be considered.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Unfortunately, many mentoring programs supporting historically underserved communities face barriers in accessing resources and developing best mentoring practices. The Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator will help us bridge that gap. As an AmeriCorps member, you'll support MENTOR Nebraska’s growing efforts to serve the youth mentoring sector through cost-free high-quality consultation, training and technical assistance. You'll support MENTOR technical assistance provided by staff and consultants, with specific focus on developing resources and toolkits for programs, and monitoring success and satisfaction. Additionally, you'll support the development of a learning agenda – ensuring materials and training align with key needs and interests across the sector. This position will utilize evidence-based practices that increase organizational capacity and support the implementation of high-quality mentoring programs. Although based in Omaha, you'll support mentoring programs across the state.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Serve as a central point of contact on day-to-day programmatic and operational for MENTOR Nebraska Technical Assistance expansion: assisting with seminars, meetings and special projects.
  • Establish a learning agenda/schedule for training and technical assistance (based on the findings of the State of Mentoring report) - this may include webinars or in-person activities.
  • Create and maintain a data library including toolkits, videos, webinars, and other tools for use across the sector. Research and locate resources, adapting as necessary to produce toolkits aligned with key areas of need and interest for the sector.
  • Develop and implement data collection process and procedures to measure technical assistance performance, including outputs, satisfaction and long-term outcomes. This includes regular outreach to TA recipients.
  • Conduct orientation for new programs. Ensure partners are fully trained, capable of delivering program activities with best practices.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Initiatives Coordinator is a point of contact for MENTOR Nebraska's school-based Success Mentors and STRIVE initiatives as we expand them to other communities in need across the state. These school-run mentoring programs support youth who aren't being served elsewhere. Success Mentors is designed to address attendance issues by matching chronically absent youth with a mentor inside the school building. STRIVE is designed to support youth who are newly arrived to the US.

As an AmeriCorps member, you won't work directly with youth; instead, you will help school districts launch these new mentoring initiatives. You'll also collaborate with the Program Manager and other MENTOR staff to provide ongoing support to participating schools, such as training and technical assistance.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Coordinate internal resources and partnerships to expand MENTOR initiatives. Strengthen partnerships with organizations and institutions interested in expanding Success Mentors and STRIVE mentoring programs.
  • Serve as a central point of contact on day-to-day programmatic, operational, and administrative matters for growing school-based initiatives – assisting with seminars, meetings, and special project.
  • Coordinate growth of Success Mentors in new schools, providing training, consultation, and ongoing supports to new programs.
  • Ensure school partners are fully trained, capable of delivering program activities to recommended standards.
  • Conduct orientation for new initiative partners.
  • Participate in the development of communications to new or potential school partners.
  • Track project performance to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals.
  • Prepares special and/or one-time reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries regarding school-based initiatives.
